It never fails. Whenever I complete a piece, I think of Drake and cry a bit. Finishing work, whether it was your favorite or not, whether it went as planned or not, always seems to be a mixture of triumph and sentimentality to me. You leave a bit of yourself somewhere and the class I teach on murals and public art in the Bridgeton School System for Appel Farm is not different. Leading the kids through the process and matching the style requested by the school is not exactly the same as creating something straight out of yourself but you still put yourself into it and hopefully into the experience for the kids.
I completed the class and mural this week with a piece dedicated to the community garden at the school. This was pure fun and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity.
